Comfort Station Gets New Paint
Have you noticed the “comfort station” at SW Hamilton St and SW Terwilliger Blvd is now open and got a much needed and deserved painting? Many thanks to Wyatt with Portland Parks & Recreation for the painting and clean up of this very old and still used facility in Historic Terwilliger Parkway.
Check out the photo below of the Comfort Station, a planned stop for downtown Portland residents traveling to the “country” which, in those days, included SW Portland and Hillsdale, along Terwilliger Blvd. “Built circa 1921 in the Rustic style a few years after the opening of the Parkway, the stuccoed Comfort Station has an asphalt shingle hipped roof with dual small restroom vent pipes and features wide overhanging eaves and prominent rafter tails. The Comfort Station serves as the Parkway’s only public restroom.” (from our 2021 National Register of Historic Places application)
The building is center right in this photo and below the road grade and light poles.
